Teaching Approach

Who the course is for, what you bring to it and how practice works from the first photograph to the final plan.

Who it is for

A course for people who record at home

glamixura was founded in 2017 in Albuquerque to help people make their recording spaces look composed and welcoming. It suits podcasters, interview hosts and streamers who want a tidy frame without guesswork. You work from your own room, and every lesson is hands-on.

Podcasters and interview hosts

If you record conversations at a desk, on a sofa or in a spare room, this course gives you a way to see your space as the camera does. You learn to choose what shows behind you, where guests sit and how colour supports the tone of your show. The goal is a frame that feels calm and lets the conversation lead.

Streamers with a fixed corner

Streamers often work in one corner for hours at a time. The lessons help you decide what belongs in shot, how to add depth behind you without clutter and how to keep the look consistent from one session to the next. You leave with a plan that is easy to maintain.

What you need to bring

You bring your room, a phone camera, a tape measure and a willingness to sketch. No design background or special equipment is expected. If you can describe your show and who joins you on camera, you already have the information that shapes your first mood board and layout.

How instructors support you

Marisol Vega guides layout planning and background design, Daniel Whitaker leads colour and mood board modules, and Priya Nair teaches props and the setup day. Feedback is specific and kind, focused on what the camera will see rather than on taste alone.

How practice works

From first photograph to a layout you can follow

Practice follows the order of a real project, so each task feeds the next. You work in short sessions on your own room, with sketches, studies and labelled examples guiding every choice. There are no fixed deadlines, so you can pause and test ideas in the space.

  1. Photograph and measure

You take photographs from the camera and guest positions, measure the room and note every light source. You mark what will and will not appear in the frame, which shapes every later decision.

    What you leave with

A room sheet with photographs, dimensions and light notes

  2. Choose colour and mood

You collect swatches, test warm neutrals against skin tones and wall finishes, and pull your choices into a board that fits your guests, topic and camera.

    What you leave with

A colour palette and a mood board with reasons for each choice

  3. Design the background

You sketch shelves, panels and wall treatments, compare two or three options and decide what gives depth behind the speaker without adding clutter.

    What you leave with

A background sketch with the chosen option marked

  4. Place furniture and props

You plan seating distances, angles and sightlines for the number of people on camera, then edit books, plants and lamps so each object has a purpose.

    What you leave with

A seating diagram and a short prop list

  5. Draw the plan and set up

You turn your decisions into a scaled layout plan and prepare an optional, calm setup session with a clear task order you can follow at your own pace.

    What you leave with

A scaled layout plan and a setup checklist
